This year, we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail being designated as a National Historic Trail, and events and activities will be taking place throughout the Caddo Region of the Trail at locations from the Rio Grande to Natchitoches!

Roads to Nowhere

10 AM- 12 PM at Fort Jesup State Historic Site

Join us at Fort Jesup in celebration of the El Camino Real Day. Guests will learn about the original El Camino Real as it travelled through the area around what is now Fort Jesup SHS, as well as the history of the original Old Soldier's Road and Highway 6 as it moved to the Spanish Texas border in the early 1800s. We invite everyone out to learn about the early roads that soldiers, settlers and those hungry for new experiences would have travelled during Northwest Louisiana's history.

Los Adaes State Historic Site 

12pm-4pm at Los Adaes State Historic Site | 6354 LA-485 in Robeline, La 

Experience traditional craft demonstrations, traditional food demonstrations, a nature hike, and explore the grounds. No admission fees are required, all are welcome to enjoy the festivities.

El Camino Real Jamboree

10am-2pm at the Stone Fort Museum on SFA Campus

Learn about making wild plum jelly and how to bake bread in a Dutch oven! A preserved food contest will kick off at 2pm, leading in to an afternoon of music and makerspace activities.

Caddo Mounds Historical Site with the Cherokee County Historical Commission

11am & 12pm at the Caddo Mounds Historical Site in Cherokee County, Tx

At 11am, there will be a rededication of the Caddo Mounds Historical Marker that was damaged in the 2019 tornado. The marker is on Highway 21 West across from Caddo Mounds Historical Site. At 12pm, experience a "Walk Through History" presentation by the Cherokee County Historical Commission as members of the Cherokee County Historical Commission portray historical figures that traveled the El Camino Real de los Tejas throughout history. 


Kids on the El Camino Real

1pm-3pm at Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site in Natchitoches, La

In today's time, you'll find various towns and trade points along any interstate. Back in the 18th century, the El Camino Real de los Tejas was that interstate for the Spanish in the new world. Join the Fort St. Jean Baptiste staff on this day as they showcase those stops along the El Camino for the young and yound at hear. Ages 10 and older are welcome!
